i'm playing with the free zoomify ez tool from zoomify.com, and i like
what it can do ... especially with detailed historic photographs:

i'm not quite so happy with the way it works with my own photographs,
maybe because i don't really have the right sort of content:

anyway, i plan to experiment some more with different sources and
different sizes/shapes on the viewing window.

i wonder if anyone else is using zoomify, and what they've learned. it
seems a different sort of medium ... slightly interactive, but needing
    content appropriate to that.

  2. See www.tno.nl/gigapix for a great zoomify example. Look around the site and
you'll find a contactpoint for questions. Perhaps that'll help

thanks! i guess that means i'm not going to bump into zoomify's upper
limits myself anytime soon. 2.5 gigapixels, man.

i've been poking around more and seeing some good uses for zoomify, but
it's not like i'd use it for everything.

ideally, i think one would use it for an image that looks good at
minimum zoom (the long shot), but also has interesting content to
"find" as you zoom in. the photo should really "work" at multiple
    levels of zoom.
