About two weeks ago I downloaded a movie poster from a site and McAfe
went nuts catching one trojan after another. Everything has bee
cleaned off using Ad-Aware, MS AntiSpyware Beta, PandaSoft, XOFTSpy
Registry Mechanic and Trend Micro to remove the stuff... nearly 20 o
the things. It worked fine and I am sort of back in business with my X

However, I can no longer acquire XP updates. The MS Windows update sit
downloads the file and then tells me it failed during installatio
without any reason given. I have reloaded XP (original disk using sf
/scannow) and then reloaded SP2 from a Microsoft CD that I have
Nothing is able to be downloaded from this update location. I can fin
files elsewhere on the Microsoft site and they download and instal
    (like WINPLAYER 10)

I received advice about doing scans, WINSOCK repairs, and HijackThi
logs which have now been done and I am clean of adware and malware. Th
updates are still not working from Microsoft and no error message i
given other than downloads have been unsuccessful ....failed.

My Windows installer is 3.1 v2 and I have Microsoft.NET Framewor
version 1.1 (not SP1) installed. I have turned off the AdWatch plug i
from Lavasoft AdAware, accepted Active X, and even shut down th
Windows firewall temporarily but this does not fix the problem.

I have the same problem and hope that someone gives me a solution t
