When one register for a domain name what should one be sure that he/she
gets. Does anyone know if there is a faq on this if so, where.

Well, all you get is ownership of the name really. Just watch out for
some of the smaller registrars as they often have huge fees for changing

If you are asking about what other features you get, besides the name,
you get nothing. Registering a domain name is only that.

The rest is a place to park that name -- it has to point somewhere. You
need a hosting machine, one that is up and connected. People pay for
this --it's the part where you get more than the name. You can sort
among amount of storage, permitted amount of data movement, mail
    addresses, and lots more.

If you'd like, there is a site somewhere that compares cheap hosts. It
won't look at all of them, maybe only partnered sites, but it's still
    worth seeing.
