What is the best way to ask a question on the Internet?

Why aren't Usenet newsgroups as popular as they once were? Now there
is Yahoo Answers, Google Answers, WikiAnswers, Live QnA, mailing lists
    and countless Web forums.

The problem with those is that they require you to register for each
forum. Where as newsgroups can be used with one account for all
    topics.

    Thanks,
    Lola

First of all, since you are asking your question in a usenet group while
using googlegroups, that isn't the best way to ask a question on usenet.

You should get a newsserver and a newsreader, as is discussed at the
    site for new usenet users
    http://members.fortunecity.com/nnqweb/nnqlinks.html
    news.newusers.questions - Links Page

.... and then you should learn some of the techniques described at that
    site

"Searching for Information - Finding Information on the Internet ... How
to begin searching for information on the Internet, including newsgroup
FAQs. - (FAQs = Frequently Asked Questions ... THE sources for
information on the newsgroups) - Newsgroups: What They Are and How They
    Work"
The popularity is different because people like you know only how to use
a browser and haven't learned about other techniques for getting
information, such as using newsgroups/usenet properly - using a
newsserver, using a newsreader, finding the appropriate group, asking
question properly, reading a group before you post into it.

Include a titty shot in your post - you'll get more interest that way.

Because it became very cheap (aka free) for most websites to add a forum
    to their tech servives.

Concisely, accurately, patiently, politely, and with gratitude for any
answer you might get. You'll also benefit from a degree of scepticism,
cynicism, and a ready supply of pinches of salt.
    They aren't?
Some of which, such as the one you are using, are actually leaching off
    usenet.
    Use what suits you. <shrug>
