    Hi there,

I am just one exam away from passing MCDST (70-272). I have since looked
on the Microsoft site and discovered there is an upgrade option for those
with MCDST that will give me the following 2 additional Microsoft
    certifications:

Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Enterprise Support Technician
Mcrosoft Certified Technology Specialist: Windows Vista - Configuration.

Those candidates with MCDST are just required to pass one exam to acquire
    the above certifications - 70-621.

My question to the group is twofold. Has anyone had experience taking this
exam? If so, could you share this with the group, number of questions,
    required pass score, duration etc..

Second question is. Do you know where I can find training material to
prepare for exam 70-261? I have done a few quick searches and could find no
    books covering ths particular exam.

    Anyone help would be appreciated.

  2. I had 51 question, 2 and a half hours to test and the passing score is
    700. Currently your best source (forgoing experience) is the Vista
Resource Kit or Vista Inside Out.

Nothing in this post means anything however if you don't have Vista
    experience.

I took your advice Michael....and took a trip to my local Barnes & Noble and
picked up the book you recommended (Vista Inside Out) for an absolute
bargain, 75% off after coupons. If this is the only resource I need to pass
exam 70-621 then this will be the best $20 ever spent.

Do you know if I can download an evaluation copy of Vista via the microsoft
site for the purpose of passing the exam? I have very little Vista
experience, but I do not want to purchase Vista until I replace my computer
    in the next year.

  4. Not sure where to get an evaluation copy of Vista, but it's vital that
you have a good deal of hands-on experience with it. If your computer
cannot handle it, you might want to look into Virtual PC
    (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx).
One way or another you will have to purchase the software.

  5. If he had a C2D I am sure he wouldn't need to virtualize it :)

  6. OP:

If you can get ahold of a CD you can install Vista using no key and it works
    for 30 days.

I think my machine is up to the task however will definitly benefit from
another 512mb of system memory as the lack of onboard video memory in my
emachine is making memory intenisve applications run really slow, which I
    imagine Virtual PC to be.....

Will definitley give it a try though as soon as I pass the other half of
MCDST and I am ready to tackle Vista...

  9. Kevin,
How is the Vista Inside Out working for you, is it a good resource? Have you
    tried the Vista Resource kit?

    Hey Anthony,

To be honest, I haven't opened the first page yet, as I am still studying
for MCDST. I did consider Vista Resource kit (as recommended to me by
Michael) but I chose Vista Inside Out because it was 40% off. Do you think
both books cover the same material, or will I benefit from reading the
    Resource kit as well.

Microsft recommend a machine with 768MB of memory. I will definitley need
an additional 512mb before I try this out..

  12. Most certianly, crucial.com has the best prices usually when looking to
upgrade. My last 2GB Upgrade kit was less than 50 bucks.
