I have had to run the Acer recovery cd on my pc, after which I have
downloaded the necessary XP updates. After I have downloaded and installed
all of the updates, my screen resolution is set at the lowest available and
gives me no option to change to anything else. I have re-done the process and
isolated Service Pack 2 as the troublesome update. I have tried
troubleshooting through the display settings windows to no avail. Any ideas?

  2. Update your video adapter drivers. If that doesn't work be sure to boot in
safe mode first and remove all display and monitor drivers then reboot and
    update the video drivers again.
