this morning

    As I said earlier, a higher exposure would have caused more of the
    highlights to be burned out.
    Of course the pelican was the subject. I wanted to be sure that all of
    it was in focus.
    While I might have gotten away with f8 on that shot, there are, or could
    well be, other images that require greater DOF. e.g. a flock of birds. I
    could also metered only for the white, and lot the shot while futzing.
    It's all a judgement call, with lots of compromise.
    And that's a good thing.

    the technical problems were caused by shooting conditions, and my own
    judgement call. In the final version I will probably tone down the
    background, even more, and possibly add a touch more fine structure.
