Article makes no mention of Bangalore. How do you read that into it?

Why do they need reporting from someone in Bangalore, if not because at
least some of the story has come from there?

It seems quite likely though. Their euphemistically named "customer
service" is all done in India, hence the customer records must be
accessible from there - and security standards there are notoriously low.

    That's a pretty tangential link.
At just around 10pm UK time, which makes it 3:30am in Bangalore. Not if
    that makes it more on-shift.

More recent updates from Reuters have no reporting from Bangalore.

The fact they say they don't know, rather points to the answer to that
    being no !

Never heard of it - but I don't watch TV much - assuming it is on the TV?

Oh gods, no! Is it? I know the IP I get comes from an old Tiscali
(Italian for excrement) AS, which in turn used to be World Online but I
assumed the PO was a vISP using that address space, as so many do, and
their billing and such is done in-house.

I wonder if they believe that the company (-ies) doing their overseas
customer service have had several copies in use and some could be
unencrypted. They could be trying to identify all the places that had
    access or copies.

I've just had an e-mail from TT (I checked the headers before getting it)
and it tells me to get a credit report.
On BBC news, Dido said that the customers would be given a years's free
access to credit reports - the e-mail mentions Noddle!

Noddle is free/was free before the TT thing, it gives a free credit
report monthly whist at the same time tries to market you with every
    credit card/financial product going.

as a matter of principle we should all be given free access to our credit
    reports, all the time

the system should be paid for by the companies that **** up, not operated as
a profit making exercise by the credit agencies
