I'm noticing that some of the subject lines on spam now contain a series
of characters after the "subject". Anybody know what it is? Example:
"Subject: your software lyho682]" Its the "lyho682]" that I'm curious
    about.

    Just curious.

From what I understand of earlier anti-spam software applications, they
searched the message header as one of the spam identifiers, so these bits of
random text are designed to throw them off the scent.
