Hate to say it (due to my ownership of failed Sigma products) but
the Sigma 18-125 DC apparently outperforms both Canon EFS zooms,
surprisingly so in the case of the more-costly 17-85/4-5.6 IS.

It's available for all mounts except Minolta, so (if an optically
adequate wide-range zoom is what you need) simplifies DSLR choice.
Only Olympus (so far) has a rational short and long zoom selection.

    wgt. len. cost close filter
    Sigma 18-125/3.5-5.6 DC 385g 78mm $269 50cm ø62
    Canon 17-85/4-5.6 IS EFS 475g 92mm $600 35cm ø67

  2. Hate to say it (due to my ownership of failed Sigma products) but
So take 60 seconds to add information about it to the lens database at

    Thanks!
