i'm about to get a camera, but can't rely on a store or two to see a whole
range of options. the one i am leaning towards is the olympus camedia
    c-7070, 7 MP camera.

i like the functions on it, especially the external hot shoe ( a must, or a
pc flash input). i want to take studio flash shots with it. it doesn't
really seem to have any flaws, but i'd like to know if there any "must see"
models in that price/feature range before buying.

    any recommendations will be appreciated.

check dpreview.com .. the Canon G6 is very hard to beat in picture quality +
a couple of other "goodies" ..

    Dear Joe,

Looking at P3100112.JPG on Steve's Digicam review of the camera and
comparing it to the same pic from a Canon 300D (also from Steve's site)
there's hardly anything to choose between them. If you like what the rest of
the camera does then buy it.

You'll get some feedback about the 7070 here:

    Another option is the 8080.
