Removal of Olympus SmartMedia Card Write Protect

Discussion in 'Digital Photography' started by Charles Koberg, Jul 18, 2003.

  1. While I was working with some photos taken by an Olympus D520-Zoom,
located on a 64MB SmartMedia card, using a card reader attachment to my
computer, the Camedia software froze the machine. Without thinking it
through, I rebooted without removing the card from the reader.
Now, the card reports it is write protected. In the camera and on the
computer, I can view the photos, but I am unable to work with them -
download, edit, copy, and the like.
The only way to remove the write protection, apparently, is to reformat
the card in the camera, but that will erase the valuable photos.
Is there a way to penetrate the write protect software on the card?

Try using Windows Explorer instead of Camedia software to copy to HD.

That is what I do. i only use Camedia S/W for stiching panoramas.
    I use Photosuite to edit.

Let us all know how that works out.

I primarily use it for automatic correction of lens distortion.
