Redundancy from the Public Sector and working in the future (in the UK)

As a result of the government spending cuts I will soon be out of work. I
need to find as many viable ideas for obtaining work including self
employment. My current work is a desk job that is specialist enough not to
exist outside of the Public Sector. I am not complaining, we have all had a
    good run.
I need something that does not require years of training. I can drive but
don't enjoy it so a driving job would be my worst nightmare.

Is there a list on in demand jobs or examples of business that can be
started relatively easily? Anything from working on an oil rig to proof
reading news papers to testing websites. I will consider almost anything. I
don't however want to be a window cleaner or driving instructor which is
    what everyone suggests!
I don't want to end up on benefits, just a chance to earn an honest living
so any positive input is very welcome. In particularly any case studies
from people who have started business even just selling on eBay.

    Thanks
