i'm just about to buy a flashgun for my canon 5d. i'm keen not to spend
too much money. is there an advantage of getting a flashgun that
automatically adjusts it's angle depending on the focal length of your
    lens?

if you are bouncing the flash a lot will this be of any use?

will it work with non canon lenses, i will mainly be using a tamron 28-75?

    many thanks,

  2. It has the advantage of increasing the effective power of the flash when
    used for direct flash.

It has no advantage when used for bounce and little advantage when used
    with diffusion.

It will work with non-Canon lenses that fully communicate with the
    camera.
