Who can help me??? When I put a disc in my dvd player (Philips 701) it
says "read" for a minute or so and then ejects the disc. I have tried
several DVDs so it is not a problem of the discs. I have also tried to
put in a cleaning disc but it ejects this as well. Since it was having
a mechanical problem this summer I know that before finding the
problem the service center updated the software so this is not the
problem (as the Philips useless customer care suggested). I have a
also plugged it in and out several times (another bright suggestion
from call center). Any ideas???? I spent a lot of money and time this
summer getting it fixed and don't want to spend any more.

    Thanks for any ideas.

Sounds like the laser has gone bad. You can get a much better player for
less than $100 now, so it's not that bad.
