Opinion on Microsoft self-paced courses?

    At http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/6714.asp, Microsoft describes
"MCAD/MCSD Self-Paced Training Kit: Developing Web Applications with
Microsoft® Visual Basic® .NET and Microsoft Visual C#® .NET, Second Edition".

    This was published in 2003.
It includes an "evaluation version of Microsoft Visual Studio® .NET 2003
Professional Edition on DVD", but it is only a 60-day trial.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Microsoft Press Self-Paced Training kits?
    Are they out of date?
How do people do examples and exercises with non-Microsoft self-paced
courses? Do you install Visual Studio?

    Regards,
    Bob
