Olympus SmartMedia Card Write Protect Firmware

Discussion in 'Digital Photography' started by Charles Koberg, Jul 21, 2003.

  1. Using the 64MB card which came with my Olympus D-520 Zoom, I took some
valuiable pictures at a one-time family event. When I was working with
the images on my computer, using Camedia Master software and a SCSI bus
card reader, the software froze my machine before I had downloaded
    them.

Upon rebooting, I found that the card had write protected itself and I
can access the images (using Windows 98 and USB cable) as read-only or
(using Macintosh and card reader) not at all - the card refuses to
    mount.

In the camera, I can look at the images, but I can't take any more
    photos.

Can anyone supply the procedure required to penetrate this write
protection so I can download the images before re-formatting?

Have you tried from Windows Explorer to un check the read only
attribute? Right click>properties. Don't know if this will work but
    it is worth a try.
