not sure what to do

    g'day, not sure what to do here,
    ive got a 2 year old packard bell pc with the usual specks which i bought second hand
    and never came with any disk, everthing was already on the pc
    i want to reinstal windows, as i seem to be getting alot of trojans that vet virus is picking up
    now, would reformating the hard drive work, but u would loose evertyhing i gather
    and would it be worh buying a newer version of windows xp? does that install over the top?

    Copy what data you want to keep onto a new HD that you temporarily
    connect (as Secondary Master).
    Ditch the PackardSmell.
    Install that new HD on a "white box" (ie: no brand).
