    The Americans are rather well known for collateral damage, friendly fire and
    unintended consequences. For example, the laws like SOPA & PIPA would be
    very detrimental to many existing and future lawful businesses, but wouldn't
    actually stop people intent on copyright infringement.

    It's a world-wide trend, see this one in Canada ...
