need help with networking issue

Discussion in 'Computer Information' started by Stephen Veefkind, Jan 3, 2004.

  1. Hi all,

Hopefully someone can help me with this: I have an old computer which I
would like to network to my present computer so that I can share files and
folders- basically use it as an external hard drive for storing binary and
audio files. How do I go about setting this up on my computer, and what
physical device (ie cable or otherwise) do I need to connect them?

Main computer is an EMachine T1150 running Windows XP and the old one is an
NEC Ready 9616 running Windows 98.

Thanks in advance & Happy New Year to all,
    Stephen

This is very involved, to write over an email. Left mouse click on a blank
spot on the desktop, and press F1 for help. In the search index, type "
network " without the quotes, and start reading. The help system is very
    good in Win98 and XP.

On the net there is a lot of information about how to set up networks. The
MS site also has a lot of information in their knowledge base.
