Mozilla Thunderbird misbehaving

Discussion in 'Computer Support' started by lee.bowmanRE-MOVE-THIS, Oct 10, 2005.

  1. I have Mozilla Thunderbird 0.7.2 (20040707)

I have a junk folder, and had the 'junk mail controls' set to put
certain incoming mail into that folder. It's been working OK for
    several months.

It started saying "The message cannot be moved or copied to folder
'junk' because writing to that folder failed. To gain disk space, from
the File menu, first choose Empty Trash, and then choose Compact
    Folders, and then try again."

I emptied and/or compacted the junk folder (can't recall which), but
    still get that message.

Is the 'junk' folder corrupted? Can I recreate that folder?

(I have a second incoming email name on the same browser, and can send
the junk items from the first email section to the 'junk' folder on
    the second email portion.)

    Thanks in advance.

    Follow the directions.
    First-
    File, empty trash
    then,
    File, compact folders.

The reason is that the junk isn't really deleted until the folder is compacted.
If you don't compact, the file grows too big.
Note that compacting may take a while. Let it work uninterupted.
OE works similarly. That's why many deleted emails are recoverable.
