    Hi all
I'm a real Computer novice & need advice on Microsoft security
patches. I went to their update page & it scanned for updates that i need.
It came up with a list & that it would take 52 minutes to complete & then
the list of patches. My pc has small storage, as i use only for internet &
am concerned that if i download the whole lot, it will slow my pc down, here
are a list of some of the patches, i've no idea of what they are:-

    1. Security update for windows virtual machine
    2. Security update for activeX
    3. " " " data access component.
    4. Windows share level password
    5. Windows 98 unchecked buffering html that leads to code execution
    6. IP fragment reassembly May 2000
    7. 2002 comulative patch for WMP 6.4 (is my bog standard WMP the 6.4
    version?)
    8. 1999, file access URL
9.Eroneous versign digital certificate, spoof hazzard
    10. Wliminates DOS device in path name
    11. Eliminate spoof route & fragmented IGM pocket

All these i know jack shit about & don't know wether to download them all,
as there is an option to remove them, but they cannot be erased once
downloaded! How do i lower my storage space & do i need old programmes like
"hijack this" & "cwshredder" that i used to get rid of old problems! I have
AVG & Adaware & run these regularly.
    Any help grateful
    Thanks
    Gary

You should be able to get away with just the "Critical Updates"

Why don't you merely select one or two at a time?

The only security patch (that you list) that's
likely to increase the space used on your disk,
is the Security Update for Windows Virtual
Machine, that is, if you don't have Java
Virtual Machine already installed. If you do,
it won't make any difference. All of the others
just REPLACE files that are already on your
    system, with more secure ones.

Critical updates, i saw no mention of this!
I could do 2 at a time, if i knew what they were!
So am i corect in saying that updates just replace & not add on!
    Thanks

Get the free CD with all security updates till February, saves downloading
them and arrives in about 5 days.
    http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp
CD also includes SP1, WMP9, DX9b and there's a separate CD with EZ Armor
    free for a year.

    Hi
When you say "critical" updates, there is no mention of this on the
website, which are these if i don't know of any of them!
