Wherever I plug in any external storage device (card reader, External backup
hard drive etc.) I get the message "no disc in drive, please insert disc". I
have been using and external hard drive for 2 years without ado, but this is
now not recognised (E Drive) and I am now unable to perform any backup of my
data. Also Itunes cannot be opened I receive the message "itunes has
encountered a problem and needs to close". I have tried uninstalling and re
installing to no avail. Any suggestions other than re loading Windows XP and
    losing all my software?

Some external drive BIOS are not compatible with X64. Do a search on ITunes
and you will find many problems with it and X64
