I have a bi-colored icon in the system tray that, when the mouse hovers
over it, says it is downloading updates 0%. I'm thinking it is Microsoft
trying to update the OS to SP2 - and, I think I turned that option off
some time ago when I ordered SP2 on cd - but I'm not sure. Anyone know?
    Thanks.

    Sounds likely.

Okay, just suppose it is ... when I click (right or left) on it I get
nothing. How can I get rid of this icon? I have gone through the items
listed under the Processes tab of the Task Manager and cannot find
anything that even remotely sounds like an update function; nothing is
    listed under Applications.
    Thanks for your help.

    Here's a starting point:

    Also:

However, note that after the 8 month period, SP2 will be force fed to
you. I believe that this will be regardless of your Automatic Update
settings, but I could be wrong about that.
