lp versus lpr

Discussion in 'NZ Computing' started by Lawrence D'Oliveiro, Jul 10, 2009.

  1. Well, I found one interesting (and useful) difference between the "lp" and
    "lpr" commands.

It's to do with PostScript files. Say I have one called fred.ps. If I type

    lpr fred.ps

it prints the contents of the file to the printer. But if I use

    lp fred.ps

then it renders the PostScript and prints the resulting image.

    Doesn't work with SVG, though...
