Lost CD/DVD drive in Dell laptop

    Well, I didn't actually loose it. It's still in place in the laptop, it
    even ejects on command, it just won't read anything I put in it anymore.
    This Dell Inspiron 5100 came my way in sad shape. Re-installed Windows XP
    Home by booting from the restore disk using this very CD-RW/DVD drive, but
    that was the last time the drive worked. I had to use a USB external CD
    drive to access the ballance of the CD's I needed. Could it be
    coincidental that this drive just died right after re-installing Windows
    XP or is there something to check that I may have overlooked?
