looking for a digital camera for night time pictures

    i'm mostly looking to take pictures at
    night,sidewalks,streets,buildings,and all that.i've never owned a
    digital camera before,nor have i really done much with any type of
    camera so i'm not really sure what i'm looking for.as for as
    price,under 300,around 250 is what i'm kind of looking at.thanks.

    Pretty well any camera that provides the ability to do time
    exposures.. (Shutter time of 5 or more seconds) will let you
    take decent night time city shots. You should look for that
    in the specs when purchasing.

    For best results, look for a camera that provides manual
    control. That will let you override the automatic mode
    and permit you to do longer exposures to gather more
    light.

    A lens with a value of f/2 or lower as well as
    the ability to set the ISO at 400 or higher would be
    good assets, but these features will take you well over
    the 300 range.

    Note that high ISO in consumer digital cameras result in
    very grainy pictures.

    The long shutter speed should do you fine but note that you
    WILL need a tripod to hold the camera steady. You won't
    normally be able to do handheld snapshots at night.
