it's not installed by default. you have to initiate the install post win2k
os install by typing dcpromo @ command prompt. if it's installed, you can
    uninstall by using same command.

if AD is installed dcpromo will remove it. if you have no other DC's you
should add another computer to run this software.

    In what way?????

Can you not put this '3rd party software' on a member server rather
    than a domain controller????

"Member server"???? What you mean? All Windows servers dcpromo DC (NO
    PDC/BDC IN WIN2000K)! Not right?

    Hi All,

I have no choice and need to install the software into
that server because there is only 1 server in their
office. According to the IT manager there, he said there
is a command which able to list down the list of services
and able to stop the active directory. I did ask him what
is the command but he don't want to let us know. They are
not afford to remove the active directory. This is the
problem what i facing. Please advise.

  17. I have no choice and need to install the software into
    You need another server then?
    I don't blame them!
The only real answer is buy, beg, steal or borrow another machine. How
you set up the machine depends on the needs of this mysterious piece
of software you need to install. If this 'software' can run on a
member server within the existing AD structure, then set up this 'new'
machine as a member sever, and get your domain admin to add it to the
domain. If this 'software' does not even allow the machine to be
within an AD structure, then your only other option is to set up the
'new' machine as a stand alone server, prior to which you will need to
talk to your admin guys/girls on the best approach to take in order to
allow client to talk to the new machine and make use of this
    mysterious piece of software.
