I installed the latest firmware update for iPod Shuffle (1.1.3). This
supposedly has "volume limiting" capabilities (not why I wanted it).
Since the update every time I crank up the volume of my Shuffle the
sound cuts in and out and in and out CONSTANTLY even at moderate
volumes. I can't say for sure but, since it never did this before the
update, I assume this is Apple's way of protecting me against myself.
Anybody have any more information about this? Can the "feature" be
deactivated? I looked for any earlier version of Shuffle firmware but
    can't find any.

    Could be wrong.

Wait, wait -- my bad. The problem was NOT with the Shuffle, it was with
my HEADPHONES (a nearly new set of decent Sony earbuds). This never
occured to me, frankly. I tried a different set of headphones and the
Shuffle worked fine. Another set -- also perfect. Third set -- ditto.
And the Sony earbuds sound louder in one ear when used in another
device (but do play fine otherwise). Don't know what's wrong here but
    it's NOT the Shuffle. Sorry.
