IE6 inserts forward slash at end of URL so image htm

  1. I am trying to download a JPEG file from a URL that I paste into the
address. The line ends with /myfile.jpg

After pressing Go, IE6 inserts a forward slash / at end of address, so
that the line ends with /myfile.jpg/

It then reads the file in htm format not as a JPEG image.

Mozilla correctly identifies file as JPG, and doesn't insert any
forward slash at the end of the address. So I can save the file in
    JPEG format.

I think the problem must be with the server, since I uploaded the file
saved by Mozilla to my homepage and IE6 gets it right then.

Is there any workaround with IE6?

What type of problem is this (keywords, etc.)?
