I got a new computer and transferred my documents, but I want to keep
a clone of the old drive so I can call up applications to see how I
had them configured. This is Windows XP SP2.

My old laptop is going in for service then will be a hand-me-down so I
want to keep a copy of it for reference.

Preferably on a USB drive. I only have about 27 GB of data on my whole
    drive.

I prefer not to buy a program since this will be a one-time affair.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!

Do it with a desktop PC, two 2.5 -> 3.5" adapters and Acronis Easy Migrate
    (free 15 day trial)
