High-res webcam

  1. Hi all.

I have been looking for a high-res webcam, should be at least 800x600
and 45fps. This is for tying it to a model airplane and taking good
videos of the flight, connected to an on-board computer with harddisk.
I understand USB1.1 does not do the trick so USB2.0 or firewire will
    be good.

Any cheap cameras of these specs out there?

This is a contradiction in terms. At 800x600 at 45fps, the bandwidth
required for the web is not available (even with broad-band).
Why not use a miniDV camcorder - that's the best you'd get without
(literally) spending magabucks for a specialist high-speed video camera
(which would be so heavy as to require a 767 to carry it) :)

In fact you'd reduce your model airplane's payload since you'd not
    require the on-board computer.

I know someone who does just this BTW. And he sometimes flies with a WA
    converter fitted.

  3. This is a contradiction in terms. At 800x600 at 45fps, the bandwidth
It might be possible with USB2.0 or firewire, just for the videoclips
    to email.

But then still, theyd have to be small videoclips.
Thought of it. It'd hurt me to crash it. A webcam is pretty sturdy on
a single PCB and no moving parts. Infact I'd remove the outside
plastic cover to makeit real small and encase the whole thing in foam
wrap or tape it outside. The computer is under consideration too, but
the whole thing shouldnt be heavier than a regular dvcam. Small
pentium1 singleboard computers go for $14 on eBay.

webcams are likewise cheap. And a crash wont hurt much, plus the parts
are salvagable. I could also put multiple lowres cams on the plane,
and then edit the video like a director.

For now I guess its the 640x480 30fps cams for me. I dont get it since
640x480x8x30 is 73mbit, would barely fit compressed in the 15mbit

The single board computer can have USB2.0, firewire, IDE, PCI, PC104
etc interfaces. Any ideas for other cameras?
