I have had a problem with the "Hibernate" function working, not working,
    and then working again.

Is there a possibility that the Windows Updates may have something to do
    with that?

The only thing that I have noticed making a difference (after a long
period of time of Hibernate - NOT WORKING) was when I deleted some
driver files in the System32 folder and re-installed them from a backup.

    Any thoughts . . .

Have you tried a system restore?
