I'm slightly confused and hopee you can help. I am about to put paste on to
the core (die) of my Athlon XP2700 CPU as this is whatI thought you needed
to do. I have also cleaned and removed all traces of the previous thermal
pad from my cooler. However some websites talk about putting paste on the
Heatsink bottom as well. Can anyone help with this

    Thanks

You may be talking about Arctic Silvers web site? In any case, you
don't have to put any thermal paste on the heatsink, just a thin layer
    on the CPU die.
