Help!! win98se file open/save dialog not sorting correctly, won't'stick'

    fairly new install of win98se (3 months?) and all of a sudden the file
    open/save dialogs are sorted in some bizzare way, definitely not
    alphabetical. I can get it that way for a moment, but after clicking ok
    it goes back next time I open/save. I have run regclean, no joy. I have
    searched my drive and registry but I can't find anything that seems a
    likely culprit.

    any thoughts anyone? I'm desperate.

    Have you tried sorting files in Windows Explorer by name and applying it
    to all folders?
