Help - cannot surf win98 ie5 or firefox

i get online on juno (win 98) then load ie 5.5 which will work for about 5
minutes then it just stops -- as if i were surfing without an internet
connection. when i click on status, i see that no bytes are coming in.
if i go to outlook express which i'm on now, there's no problem, i can
access all my newsgroups.
anyone have a clue as to what's happening?
i reinstalled ie5 and same thing. for me to get it to work again, i must
reboot the machine, then get online again (56k modem) ... then after a few
sites that work fine, it happens again, as if i were disconnected. this
would probably be a good control if you have
kids but i'm getting really frustrated.
any help would be appreciated.

also - i am able to get and send mail while this is happening so the
connection seems to be ok - just no browsing on
ie or my firefox.

I agree. I'd call your ISP tech support and ask 'em if their
web service is down. The thing with networks is you can waste
a lot of time trying to fix the end of the connection that
isn't broken. If you have nntp news, try going on the ng
for your ISP and see if anyone else is griping about www
being down or erratic.
