    I have a new external 120GB hard-drive that's preformatted to be
cross-compatabile with both Windows and Mac. Is there a way I could make
partitions on this hard-drive so that some will work on both platforms and
some will be NTFS? Will it work? And also, as a primarily Windows and
Linux user, what will be the downside of having a cross-compatible
hard-drive to say, a pure NTFS one?

    Yours,
    Jack

i've never used a drive like that but would be interested to know what kind
of formatting could be used with both windows and mac

but i can tell you, that if you formatted the entire drive as NTFS
it would only be readable to an NT based operating system
    (such as NT4, win2k or XP )
