google groups changes ways again!

A golden rule google has yet to live by.
As you can see, they now post the email address as the username. Last
year, they posted what ever screen name you chose.
In the help section, it says you can change your username, but
    requires a valid email address.
Sounds to me like some spammer paid somebody a few bucks to get google
to post valid email addresses they could easily find.
Which is one reason why I chose this particular email. I figure that
in the groups that I haunt, most of the old timers would know who it
is without a second guess anyway.
If it does get spammed, what I do care? It's nothing more than a spam
    trap account.

They should do it like newsguy does, you select your posting name with
    each and every post.

The googlegroups personal information is firstname lastname nickname
    username (logon email addy)
Correct. It isn't trivially possible to logon to GG with an invalid
    username/email.
Google's mitigation to the exposure of the good addy only applies to
accessing the addy with googlegroups, in that the address is munged by
replacing the last 3 chars before the @ with an ellipsis ... which is
defeated by translating the captcha if you are a human.

There are quite a number of disadvantages to reading and posting to
newsgroups using the GG interface. What GG was originally was an
archive of newsgroup postings, and that is the only function I would use
it for. Using the archive for reading and posting is a bad idea.

You should get a newsserver and a newsreader and stop posting to
googlegroups. Besides, a lot of people filter out everything a
googlegrouper posts, so what you have to say is read by a lot less
    people than you would like.
I don't know why you only consider web interfaces to newsgroups in your
comparison. At least newsguy gives you the option to access it with a
nntp newsreader instead of web access with a browser.

    In
    That's right; their rule is:

It's not broken? Well, we can fix that!

Create an email account just for the newsgroups.
And newsguy does that because it's a major spammer in the newsgroups
    and wants the money.

I'm not much of a Google Groups fan since so many of the groups they
have don't propagate. But if they make it harder for ppl to change
nicks on the fly that is fine with me. I just saw a post today on
google Groups that had no email address so I'm not sure what the
    complaint is.
