Er, because CCleaner / Registry Optimiser removed entries in the Registry
necessary for these programs to run!

Gmail/Google groups are reguarded by some as a mild form of Spam, others
reguard this sort of app as sucking the power out of their PC's. There fore
it is not surprising CCleaner/Registry Optimiser may have 'cleaned' the crap
    out.

Lesson, do your research, use Google and search for what these programs want
to remove 'before' you blindly tell them to go ahead.
They are powerfull programs and if not properly handled can cause more
    damage than fixes.

    Options you have are:
See if there is a restore function in CCleaner/Registry Optimiser
Roll back your PC with 'System Restore'
    Reinstall the applications.

    Best luck
    Paul.

  4. Gmail and Google Groups are web pages, not applications.

The only possible thing the OP could have done was delete some cookies
that may have controlled how they display, or are accessible.

Besides, he posted his problem from Google Groups...
