In my opinion the exams get a little tougher as you progress through the
series. Concerning MCSA I found the Microsoft Administrators Pocket
Consultant for Windows Server 2003 and Sybex's training guide for 70-291
with its good CD (Contains simulations) very good.

  3. Hi ZooBear,

I have been running a study group for MCSA/MCSE in Montreal, Canada with a
group of people, most of whom had no pre-existing certifications. We started
with the Microsoft Press box ( MCSE Self-Paced Training Kit (Exams 70-290,
    70-291, 70-293, 70-294): Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003 Core Requirements,
    Second Edition - Due to
the vast differences in knowledge levels (and everyone's busy schedules) we
took thirteen weeks to complete the first book on 70-290, but when we did
NINE of the participants passed within two weeks of finishing... An
exceptional pass rate by any means!

Of course you do have to follow the exercises, and I would never counsel
taking an exam solely based on theoretical knowledge - you have to install
and work with the software before you can expect to pass.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
