  1. Link the two routers then - might need a bit of configuration to stop them fighting though.

    Think yourself lucky.

You have about 3 times the speed I do, and my cabinet *has* been
    enabled, several months ago.

But since my cabinet is about 4.5km away, the fact it has FTTC doesn't
help in the slightest, and there is no current prospect of me getting
anything faster than the 2.5-3Mb I currently get.

The message I get from the checker is :
Your cabinet is live however, due to distance from the cabinet or
other factors you are not able to access fibre broadband just yet. We
are currently exploring solutions for your area, please register and
    we'll keep you posted.

  4. I am lucky in that my cabinet is less than 100 metres away from my
property but about 2.5 km from the local exchange. The nearest fiber is
on the next lane about 100 m from my cabinet and has been there for a
good couple of years now. I'm that close to fiber but they're still
keep putting off giving us one.

You are doing quite well to get that. Round here people at 5km from the
exchange are down to 1M sync rate and intermittent service when wet.

Worth taking a look to see if you can get 3G or 4G mobile connection to
your premises with a suitable fixed antenna if your volume requirements
are not too high. My mobile at home on 3G is faster than my fixed line!
IOW Hell will freeze over before you will get it at that location.

I'm on an exchange only line with the nearest FTTC cabinet further from
me than the exchange. I just about get enough bandwidth to stream HDTV.
