I'd like to get a flat panel LCD monitor. I know the quality of the
CRT monitors was measured in pitch, .26, .28 etc. How do I tell the
quality, or what do I look for in a good flat panel monitor? Thanks.

I look for a Contrast Ratio of least 500:1

and a three year warranty. But I haven't bought one.

My local Sam's Club has NEC LCD1912, 19 inch for US$579.

It's now an older model, their (NEC) current one is a 1960 or a 1980 mdl.
But it seems pretty decent to me.
