File Save Differences Between Win98 and Win2K

Discussion in 'Firefox' started by Scott Gravenhorst, Nov 25, 2003.

  1. I have recently had to abandon Windows 98 for Windows 2000 for reasons
beyond my control and I noticed an annoying difference in the way file
saves behave in Mozilla under Win2k. For 98, a file save-as presents
a dialog box with the filename filled in exactly as it is specified on
the page. An image, for example, (image.jpg) is presented exactly as
image.jpg. Under windows 2000, the same file download and save
presents a filename of image.jpg.jpeg. I can find no preference with
which I can adjust this. I do not like to have to modify the filename
for practically every image I download.

Am I just stuck with this?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Thats a windows OS setting, not a Mozilla one <g>
Sorry, my main OS is Mac (which has a similar setting btw) so I cant
tell you how to correct it on yours

  3. Ah, thank you for that. While I couldn't find a "Windows" way to fix
it, I did find a registry key using regedit which had somehow (some
image application probably) got set to ".jpeg". It was a MIME setting
and once set to .jpg (the most common extension for this file type),
    the problem was resolved.

Thanks again, that's what I needed.
