When I try to open Excel from a shortcut I get the message 'Preparing to Install'. I get the same message when I try to open an .xls document from Windows Explorer. Excel is installed however. The only way I can currently open it is directly from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office This has only been happening for the last two days. I have checked in Control Panel/Folder Options that the .xls file type is associated with Excel. I am running Windows 2000 & Excel 2000. Does anyone have any ideas? Many Thanks Iain
I'm not a MS Office user, but isn't there a 'repair' option in the install/uninstall for Office applications?
There is for Internet Explorer but not for Office. However there is a 'Detect and Repair' option within Excel. Unfortunately when I try to run this I get the message 'This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you have access to it'
Then I suggest that you uninstall it, clean up your system, and reinstall; be sure to back up anything that you might need, like settings etc. <snip>
