Encrypt line pwd

Discussion in 'Cisco' started by Warrick FitzGerald, Dec 22, 2003.

  1. How does one store an encypted line passwd.

Con the console you simply say "ena secret xx"

but when your in "line vty 0 4" I would expect "secret xxx" to do the
same. However I can only see "pass xxx" which is then in cleartext when
    you show to config ?

    Thanks

'service password-encryption' as a global command. Note that this is
*not* the same as the MD5-hash 'enable secret', but a quite trivial bit
of obfuscation, and there are numerous programs that decrypt it.
