duplicate mac address one same vlan

Discussion in 'Cisco' started by David Reinhart, Feb 20, 2004.

  1. I have a load balancing cluster of web servers that are running on a single MAC
address. The problem is that the switch can't figure out that this MAC
address should be routed to the different interfaces, and instead, is
broadcasting all the traffic to that MAC on all ports.

Any ideas for me? I can't use multiple VLAN's as I only have one
    subnet to work with.

    David,

I had the exact same problem working with Microsoft NLB and Cisco switches.
What you need to do is add a static ARP entry for the cluster IP.

the format is something along the lines of:

arp X.X.X.X (cluster IP) yyyy.yyyyy.yyyy (cluster mac address) ARPA

    Hope this helps
