Does a sony universal remote work with every Sony dvd player?

    I bought a sony RDR-gx330 DVD recorder/player recently - and it did not have a remote.
    The Sony site says that they do not make it anymore.

    Can I use a Sony (or other brand?) universal remote?
    Will it work on this old recorder?

    I just saw a Sony RM-V201 universal for sale, is it worth purchasing?
