While on holiday I connected my Nikon Coolpix 4300 to a TV to play
back my photos using a SCART adaptor, which I had done on previous
occasions without problems. On this occasion I carelessly flicked the
adaptor switch from input to output when I could not get a signal. The
camera died instantly and is not economical to repair. Back home I
discovered that the composite video output signal from a Sony TV has
4.7 V DC on it. I've now made a little square rubber peg and inserted
it in the SCART switch to save destroying my next digital camera!

No great loss then. Now you can justify buying a decent camera.
