    Please, can some kind person tell me what program is associated with
    ..tmp files by default? I accidentally associated them with Microsoft
    Word but clearly that was not the default position and I want to
    restore the original association.

    Nothing is associated with a .tmp file. To remove the association:

    Start | Run <type in>
    CMD
    <enter>

    Then type in: ASSOC .TMP =
    <enter>

    Type in: ASSOC /?
    for instructions, if your leary :)
