D Link drops connection

    I had a perfectly good wired broadband internet connection until I installed
    a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless router.

    I connected the router to my modem and connected the PC's ethernet card to
    the router, as per the instructions. The 'wired' signal therefore went from
    the cable modem, into the router, then into my PC, so my PC still had a
    wired connection, albeit via the router

    It worked OK for a short time, then it started to drop the connection.
    Every time this happened, I got a message at the taskbar saying "A network
    cable has been unplugged". This message kept coming and going with
    increasing frequency until the internet connection became unusable. Any PCs
    connected to the router wirelessly lost the connection at the same time as I

    D-Link tech support suggested I change the ethernet cables, which I did.
    This didn't work, so I assumed the router was faulty and took it back to the
    shop for a replacement. The replacement has exactly the same fault. I now
    have a brand new unit, with new power supply and all new cables

    I've had to disconnect the router and I'm now using the cable modem with a
    direct connection to my PC's ethernet card, as before, and it works fine
    again, but the rest of my family can't connect wirelessly

    Any ideas?

    Nothing wrong with your equipment.
    You are experiencing the new VirginMedia-induced router fault.
